bell ringer for 12/16/2013

For today's bell ringer you are to research and create a top ten list for the events of 2013.  For each one, you are to write a 2-3 sentence description of the event and why it is ranked in the top ten.

1. Standoff over Obamacare Results in Government Shutdown- Congress fails to agree on a budget and pass a spending bill, causing the government to shut down. The failure to pass a bill is largely due to a standoff over the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

2.
More Jobs Are Added in July, But Growth Remains Slow (August) - Shows that even by adding jobs people are not taking them, Proves that people are in fact abusing the welfare system.

3. Colorado Recalls Pro-Gun Control State Senators - Voters in Colorado throw out of office Democrats John Morse and Angela Giron for their support of recently enacted gun-control laws that mandate background checks on private gun sales and limit magazine clips to 15 rounds.

4.
Israel Takes Responsibility for Airstrikes in Syria - it's about time someone decides to fight each other. All the political arguments accomplish nothing, now people will be heard.

5. Huge Turnout for Anti-Gay Marriage Rally in France - An estimated 150,000 people protest gay marriage during a rally in Paris
6. Hiring Slows, but Unemployment Falls in September - Shows that  people are finding ways to be self sufficient and not take bail outs from the government.

7. jan 6th- 10 people killed by U.S. drone

Bellringer for 12/11/13

1.  Do you believe the police have the same rights to "snoop" in personal cell phone usage as the NSA does?  Or is this a separate entity with different rights?   Neither one of these groups should be "snooping" through any form of anything that could potentially be deemed as personal.

2. Do we live in a society where privacy is a thing of the past?  It's beginning to look that way, most people seem to be willing to give up their rights to be given a word of trust from a higher form of "protection." Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security should deserve neither and lose both.
He who gives up freedom for safety deserves neither.

bell ringer for 12/9/2013

1.  Does the NSA have a right to collect your personal data without a search warrant or probable cause? No, they do not. It is called PERSONAL data for a reason. It concerns my and nobody else.
2.  Why would these tech companies be against providing such said data? Because nobody should any concern with personal information. They are invading our privacy, they are trying to feel in a position of power or authority. They try to strike us with fear, fear not for the citizens will eventually rebel and implement fear into the fear causing, power hungry, commy-pincos who try to feel empowered.

bellringer for December 2, 2013

should prisoners be able to vote? Prisoners are still citizens which should receive the natural right to vote.

debate questions

Will prayer in public place really affect anybody?

Why is it such a big deal to other individuals if we people do pray in public?

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

Bell Ringer for 11/19/13

Why did the newspaper think so little of the speech? They are pansies.

How was the speech received in other areas of the Union? I'm not to sure.

Monday, November 18, 2013

bellringer for 11/18/13

From a constitutional standpoint, do you agree or disagree with prayer being held prior to public meetings?  Defend your answer. I agree, if somebody wants to host a prayer, more power to them. If you don't want to hear, nobody is forcing you to be there. The wonderful thing about America is if you don't like something you don't have to be there. Just leave people alone and let them do what they do.

Debate notes

Pros-  51% republicans support. Oregon and Washington are the only 2 states with decision of death.

Cons- WV is one of the states against suicide. Assisted suicide is 10 or more years in prison if convicted.

Jesse is everyone.

Cierra is not staying level headed and getting to worked up. Talking to fast.

bell ringer for November 13, 2013

1. do you agree or disagree with the decision? It honestly doesn't matter to me.
2.  Do you think it is a violation for Sea World?  Or is it the right if the trainer to decide? It's the right of the trainer to decide, an example that could go along with this is "Play with fire, you're going to get burned." Same with animals. You take a risk. Natural selection at it's best. It's sad that the government thinks they can protect everybody by making decisions for them.

bellringer for 11/12/13

read the article and respond how you would have handle the situation if you were the hunter? I'd tell em to pull the plug. My family couldn't afford to keep me on a breathing machine and i'd be no use to anyone anyways. Kill me off.

Wednesday, November 6, 2013

bell ringer for November 6, 2013

Thanksgiving is just another day, whether it be thanksgiving or a stay at home "leave" day, a day is just a day. If your family member has to work, schedule a dinner around their work schedule. If you have a job, you have an obligation to the place of employment if you wish to continue working there.

Contrast this with US laws and how they handle gay rights: The Russians apparently have morals and standards in which they expect of the people in their country.

Bell ringer for October 31, 2013

1.  do you believe this letter is too "harsh" why or why not?
I believe if she is so against giving candy to children then she shouldn't be giving them any at all.
2.   do you believe that it is her Constitutional right to hand out said letter?  Why or why not? Yes, it is her right, she is protected under the 1st amendment. This is not slanderous, this is opinionated.

Bell Ringer for 11/1/13

1.  Was this a justifiable shooting? Yes it is justifiable, by valuating the actions taken by the teens one could argue that these teens could have the intent to harm other individuals.
2.  What does this type of action say about society? It says we may have a sense of hope! It's about time citizens started taking actions into their own hands instead of relying on a federal power to manage everything for them.

Bell Ringer for 11/4/13

1. What effect will tough requirements such as this have on voters?
It will just make this a more educated election, meaning the people that meet the requirements have a higher chance of knowing something about the candidate.
2. Can these requirements violate the rights of voters? No, it can not. Having a voter ID card is a stipulation for the voting processes just like the stipulation of having a class 3 FFL license to possess an automatic weapon.

bell ringer for October 28, 2013

1. Read the article and write your initial response. My response is, I am slightly offended. The confederacy was a stand against the government because a number of people were not happy with political standing at the time. This controversy, although it did in fact lead to bloodshed, was beneficial to our nation by making the people's wants heard.

2.  Do you feel that the writer is correct in his opinion? He is definitely not correct. The confederates demanded individual state-ism. They felt controlled by a national power. As a result they took a stand which helped form our nation into what it is today. The government needs to be reminded every once in a while who actually runs this country. They best way to do that is a revolution, there will be no avoiding bloodshed, and there will be no guaranteed safety until they battle is over. Take a stand.

3.  Why do you feel their is still an issue with the confederate flag still nearly 150 years later? Hank Williams Jr. said "The south's gonna rattle again." People live in fear that an event like the civil war could occur again, some people would rather lay down and give up their liberties and freedoms to avoid a dispute rather than fighting for what they deserve. Benjamin Franklin once said "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

1.  Do you believe this is a frivolous law suit?  Why or why not? If you have suspicion that this man is playing the system, by all mean investigate him.

2,  On another note, do you believe the men who toppled the rock should be charged with destruction of property?  Why or Why not? Depends on if it is private land or not. Honestly it doesn't make a difference. That rock was there in the beginning, it's still there now, it's just moved a couple feet one direction. By the look of the video there was just a small amount of clay material holding the rock up, meaning it wouldn't take much force to "topple" it over.

bell ringer for October 17, 2013

1.  The shut down is over, so what's next? Next we will continue to plunder further and further into debt. Eventually the Chinese will want to claim their money and we won't be able to meet the demands. This will send the country into another depression and could result in a war.

Bell Ringer 10/16/13

1.  Should the two girls be charged?  yes or no and explain your answer. No, the  kid obviously had problems other than bullying if she killed herself. Bullying has always been around, it is just publicized more today.
2.  What is the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony?
A misdemeanor is just a fine with short jail time. Felony is extended jail time with a record.
3.  What one thing do you think should be done to combat bullying? Tell the kids to stand up for themselves. Beat the mortal living crap out of the bullies and they'll learn that a bullying behavior isn't excepted.

simply read the article and respond

how do we keep events like this from happening? You can't keep this from happening, people will always get aggravated and make stupid decisions. It's a natural occurrence in society. I think we should begin taking warning labels off of stuff and let natural selection run it's course.

Bell Ringer for October 8, 2013

1.  Do you agree or disagree with changing the name?  Defend your position in one paragraph. I don't care if they change the name or not. It's not the public position to argue about a name in an organization. People are just to touchy.

Response to my grandchild.

What have a done to make a difference? I made a difference for you, I kept a good reputation on the Moats name. Don't screw it up.

1.. What does this say about our national security?  It obviously says a three year old can penetrate 3 levels of security.
2.  Are you surprised that something like this could happen in 2013? No, I'm honestly not surprised. Mistakes happen, there are always flaws in the system somewhere. Should it have happened? Probably not, but at least we can have a real 'Home Alone' movie made.

How are the 'essential' government workers going to paid if there is no money flow?

If the government was officially shutdown there would not be any social order, so the government will never be shut down. Is it false information coming from the media?

Thursday, September 26, 2013

Bell Ringer 9/26/2013

1.      From the movie, what are the benefits of a centralized system? To find potential threats to our country in an invasive manner. The government doesn't have a need for all of our conversations and activities to be documented and stored.

2.     How did the advanced technology control the lives of the people in the movie? It had the power to eliminate people and control different variables of society for the benefit of its own gain. Changing stop lights, creating power surges... etc...

3. Do you want to have that kind of technology in our community, like our school or municipality? Defend your stand. I do not! This would definitely be invasive of our privacy. No man, nor machine, should monitor us throughout our entire existence.

4.      In what way do you use technology wisely? Give an example. You use technology wisely in such manner as the medical field, to better the lives of our people, not invade them.

5.      What message does the movie want to convey? How should you use or treat technology in this digital age? This movie conveys the advancements in technology which could eventually be implemented into our society.

I don't believe video games have as much impact as people believe. The stress factor of playing video games can cause people to be a little more aggravated, but any stress can cause that.

Bell Ringer 9/18/13

1.  List three reasons why the school district claims to be collecting this information. The main reason is a kid tried to commit suicide.
2.  Is this an invasion of privacy? In a way, it is. Even though it is social media, snooping is not a pleasant, well viewed thing.
3.  How would you react if this practice were implemented in Barbour County? I wouldn't react in a pleasant manner, if I wanted a particular group of individuals seeing what I post or say, they would see it. This is an easy way for things to be blown way out of proportion. I am speaking from past experience, this is just going to cause more confusion than what it's worth.

Bell Ringer 9/17/13

1.  What does this type of reaction say about America as a melting pot? It just says people have certain standards pertaining to their individual morals.

2.  Has the civil rights movement equally affected all minorities in America? No, there will always be a minority no matter how people people believe one day it will change. It won't. You will always have a group of people that don't like another.

Bell ringer 9/16/2013

My response to this is, it was a confusing period of time in that era of history. There was a large racial misunderstanding between the whites and the blacks, but for the most part most people have overcome the racism that was once profound throughout the nation.

What is this significance? It's just something to watch on television.

Was war a success or failure? For the attackers it was a failure.

Bell Ringer 9/12/13

1. Interpret what the meaning is of the article. How will job seekers view this information. Most people would view it as a good thing that less people are seeking unemployment benefits, to me that means that the program is going back to its intended use.

2.  Does this mean the economy is improving? Yes, it does. Instead of taking my money and giving to people who didn't earn it, they are going out and earning their own. More money to go around. All the government needs to do now is quit taxing the crap out of me for use on plundering programs.

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

bell ringer for 9/11/2013

It is invasive, the government shouldn't be so worried. If you can't trust the people who empower you why should they trust you to have that position of power? People are beginning to live in fear, fear is a limiting factor which causes trust issues and empowerment problems. When people figure out they can inflict fear upon other inividuals, they will. Fear is power. If you live in fear of something, you will avoid it. Don't be afraidf, don't let your guard down, and push forward day by day.

Monday, September 9, 2013

Bell Ringer 9/9/13

1. Does the US have a responsibility to be a world police force? They do not have said responsibility, but I suppose they could assume the role as a world police force. Personally, I believe we should keep our noses in our own business. If the other countries slaughter each other it's no sweat off our back.
2. What roll should the UN play in enforcement? Unless they are being threatened, they should stay out of other countries affairs.
3. Why are chemical weapons of such concern to the world? Chemical weapons are feared, it's no different than a directional explosive or a bullet fire from a firearms. Dead is dead either way. Some people believe death by chemical weapon is a more cruel way to kill people, it just presents a psychological factor. Poloticians and people in the position of authority all need something to harp about.

1.  Write a reaction to the article. This isnt as uncommon as people may believe, this guy was just unlucky enough to get caught.
2.  What do the father's action show?It shows he disciplines his child, but in an extreme measure.
3.  Would this have been acceptable in the 1950s?Yes, it probably would have been acceptable in the 1950's. My great-grandmother and her brother used to be disciplined with a horse whip. My uncle's have scars on their backs from this.

Bell Ringer 9/5/13

1.  Should McDonalds raise the prices on its "Dollar Menu?"  Justify your answer. It has the name "dollar menu" for a reason. Changing the prices and not the name of the menu would be false advertising, which is illegal.

2.  Should entry level fast food workers be paid a "living wage?" It's not a job worthy of a higher pay. There are people that work much harder than these fast food workers, but get paid less than $15. I know some bridge inspectors that work with DOH (Department of Highways) that make the $7.25 that fast food workers are already being paid.

1.  What fields and or degrees should a person pursue?STEM fields — science, technology, engineering and math

2.  What additional data would you like to see? A range of data on other job fields.

3.  How will this impact your decisions about college? It will not, I still plan to go to Glenville to get an associates degree in forestry.

BR - 8/27/13

1. Should the two boys be tried as adults? why or why not? They should be tried as adults reguardless of their age. They are beyond the point of being able to know right from wrong, the boys are able to make decisions and think for themselves. Seeing as they thought this was a good idea; I believe we make our society a better place, try them as adults, and ponder the death penalty.
2. Should their identity remain undisclosed or since the crime is heinous? justify your answer? To me, it doesn't matter if their identities are revealed or not. My solution is hang them in front of the court house square for everybody to see.
3. What can we as a society do to keep crimes like this from happening? We could arm every citizen, we wouldn't be in as much danger if the "bad guys" new they were at a higher risk as well.
Set an example, Hang them from an old oak tree and put it on national news for all to see. Let potential law breakings know what they will face if such extremist acts are commited. Instead of locking them up and hearing nothing about the situation ever again, make a lasting impression on everybody. Some may think this is cruel, but this is the way it was done up until the past 70 years.
