BR 4/10/2014

You have $500 to your name to last an entire month. List the thing you're going to spend your money on- in order of importance- and reason for each item why it is more important than other options.

20 pounds of potatoes (roughly $25) - Need something to feed myself.
4 pounds of sliced turkey (roughly $28) - Have to have protein
The other $447 will be spent on a used riding lawn mower and a few gallons of gasoline. I can turn over a profit by charging $15 dollars a yard and assuming i can mow 10 yards every 2 weeks then at the end of the month I should have $300. Reinvest buying the same amount of food and more gasoline, and I should have enough money left over for any kind of emergency costs. I will begin turning a profit by the end of the second month and by that time word will spread and I can begin doubling my business and becoming an entrepreneur.

Letter to the Editor

To whom it may concern, the editor (Ms. Carpenter), many individuals find this "discrimination" activity to be a waste of quality class time and an abuse of power. The power in you are currently using in which we can only talk when we ask permission, some students are only able to write responses or anything to be said, and there are a couple other hindrances to our learning capabilities. Some student may not be as inclined to ask questions based upon their limitations to communication through your educational efforts. This may cause student to retain less information because they may not ask questions to give them a better understanding of the material to be retained.
Another problem that may be faced is the initial change of education in the classroom, students are not subjected to this style of learning in any other classroom, because we have been introduced into a change of education some students may stress which could be another cause of interference to an individuals academic performance.
We have been split off into races which are not our own, we have been titled as an unequal in the classroom losing our previous rights. This could be seen as defamation of character. Defamation could be a criminal or civil charge. You (being the educator) may have the upper hand on a defamation case. But the actions could still be seen as unjust.
In the Barbour county schools policy book, policy 2300 - 4.2.2 states "has the purpose or effect of substantially or unreasonably interfering with an individual's work or academic performance." Which has been mentioned in the previous paragraphs above that an individuals academic performance may be at risk. This is the reason why we should put a halt on the current learning style.

Picture assignment

In this picture it is a white supremacy group hanging black individuals
There is not a date as to when this picture was taken but judging by the clothing I'd say its around the 30's or 40's.
This looks to be an act of hate. I could assume it's during the times when the KKK was a large organization.

BR 4.2.14

What do you think will be the most difficult part of the "discrimination" project?

Yeah man, it'd be Keeping Shaquad in his seat man. Rosa Parks was a great example for me, yo!

  • Those who oppose Civil Rights often believe you can't change morality by passing a law.
  • Dr. King: "Judicial decrees...may not change the heart, but they can restrain the heartless."
  • 1870s-1950s: no meaningful legislation passed in regards to civil rights.
  • The Civil Rights Act of 1964: passed after the longest debate in Senate history (83 days). Made changes to the following: 1. Voting provisions.  2. public services (restaurants, hotels, theaters, etc) could no longer deny access based on race, religion, national origin, physical disability, etc.   3. Federal funding programs could not discriminate for those same reasons.    4. Employers and labor unions also could not discriminate for the above reasons.

  • Civil Rights Acts of 1968: aka -- "Open Housing Act" -- cannot refuse selling/rent living space to a person due to race, religion, national origin, physical disability, etc. Housing is still one of the most segregated areas in American life today.
  • Title IX: forbids discrimination on the basis of gender in any educational program or program regarding financial assistance. Equal funding and opportunities must be given to women athletics
  • AFFIRMATIVE ACTION:
  • Requires employers take positive steps to fix the affects of past discrimination
  • Employers must meet quotas for minority groups/genders.
  • Many argue this results in reverse discrimination: discrimination against the majority group; they are denied opportunities so minority groups have more opportunities.
  • Color blind based on what theyre good at not what they look like
  • California, Washington, Michigan, and Nebraska voters passed measures to eliminate all affirmative action plans
  • The Bakke Case:
  • Allan Bakke sued the University of California because he was denied access to their medical school for Affirmative Action Bakke won the trial.
  • Since then the Court has made decisions regarding similar cases. quotas can be used as needed.
  • Justice Sandra Day O'Connor predicts in 25 years, the use of racial preferences will no longer be necessary. No more affirmative action. Kind of wishful thinking in my opinion      Section 4
  • All people who were born in states or by naturalization
  • 90% of people are born a citizen
  • can choose to no longer be an American citizen "epatriation"
  • denationalization - were your nationalization is taken back because your papers a false
  • congress decides if you can travel to places.
  • quotas for immigration - only so many can come to US
  • Immigration Act if 1965 - did away with immagration quota system up to 270000 were allow into US each year
  • Immigration act of 1990 - allows 675000 immigrants into US each year gives special privileges to special talents people  doctor, ect.

Should this be something that is mandatory? Do you think these cameras will actually make a difference in driving?

No, a rear facing camera isn't going to help automobiles. The device can easily fail, people are relying to much on technology.
